Intro

Work

Let me introduce myself. I’m Jacob, and my goal as a writer is to inject mystery and wonder back into a polarized world that prefers to think in absolutes. When we find ourselves awestruck, mystified, or confounded, we have an opportunity to collectively lean in and ponder. It is my conviction that the world is full of questions and ambiguities that shouldn’t be avoided, but embraced. Dogma divides; thoughtful, questioning art unites.

I have sought to use my writing as an opportunity to process the questions that feel most relevant or pressing to me, in hopes that they will be interesting or thought-provoking to someone else. I find myself consistently coming back to themes of religious or political confusion (“A New State of Affairs” / “Don’t Shoot”), the value of curiosity versus dogmatism (“The Experience of Attempting…” / “We’re Only Dreaming” ), and the virtue of embracing that which is confounding (“Your Own Roof”).
